BGCS Soccer Victorious Over Columbus Police Department Soccer Team
Bridge Gate Community School (BGCS) was victorious over the Columbus Police Department Soccer Team in a highly competitive match-up. As Commander Scott Hyland of the CPD put it, the event was a "classic match-up of youth versus experience."
The final regulation score was 4-4, with the game being decided on the fourth kicker to goalie kick-off challenge. The CPD soccer team, which included some players with 20 plus years of service, were evenly matched with the younger high school students until that final challenge. After a well-fought match, the students were ecstatic to win the trophy for display in the school!
Spectators were excited by the competitive event and were treated to a surprise flyby of a CPD helicopter. One of the fans in attendance included Auditor Michael Stinziano. Auditor Stinziano was crucial in making the sidewalk between BGCS Elementary Campus and the Wedgewood Apartment Complex a reality. Auditor Stinziano and all the BGCS fans were happy to come out in support of the team and this chance for strengthening the relationship, respect, and mutual understanding of this community segment with the Columbus Division of Police.
BGCS is grateful for the support and community engagement this event provided. This event would not have been as successful as it was without the help of Auditor Stinsiano, Commander Scott Hyland, Siyat Mohamed - local community leader, Wedgewood Apartment Complex, Wedgewood Soccer League, Columbus Division of Police, Columbus Police Recruiting Unit and the CPD Explorers Program representatives. While the evening resulted in a trophy for BGCS, the bigger victory was the connection between the community and police that was formed during this fun event.
